At last, summer’s here. That means longer days, lighter nights – and a few new-season aesthetic treatments to help you look and feel great. The colder weather has already taken its toll on skin, often leaving it dull, dry and prone to blemishes however. And the cuisine you enjoy in cooler months can also lead to curves in all the wrong places! However, panic not. There’s always time to repair and renew your complexion and blitz those unwanted lumps and bumps. So I’ve put together six of the best anti-ageing face and body treatments this summer. Enjoy!
Let’s hear it for the HydraFacial
If you’ve ever coveted that famous ‘red carpet’ celebrity glow, this is the treatment for you. Trust me, HydraFacial is not just another facial. It’s a multi-step treatment that uses hydra dermabrasion and patented vortex technology to gently resurface your skin. That might sound scary, but it’s a short-cut to a gorgeous glow. This multi-tasking marvel cleanses, exfoliates and nourishes the skin with rejuvenating radiance-boosting super serums. It’s designed to address a variety of different conditions including fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, dryness, dullness and pigmentation.
The full, six-step HydraFacial lasts for around an hour (some clinics offer a 30-minute express version). It’s relaxing, completely pain-free and there’s no downtime involved – so it’s perfect for that indulgent lunchtime treat.
In praise of injectables
If you’re after the fast-track to looking younger, it’s time to investigate injectables. In skilled hands, I hear they can take years off your face. Anti-ageing injections (more commonly referred to as Botox) smooth out lines and wrinkles after just one treatment. They’re perfect for crow’s feet, frown lines and pretty much any wrinkles on the upper half of the face. Results are fast – and last for months – so book now to look amazing for the whole summer. Just make sure you’re treated at a reputable clinic, by an experienced medical professional.
If saggy skin is the problem, facial fillers are the solution, especially on the lower half of the face. They can lift, firm, plump, volumise and recreate those youthful contours. Results are instant, and again, last for months.
The new kid on the injectables block is Profhilo, sometimes described as injectable skincare. Profhilo delivers subtle skin rejuvenation, and a plump, hydrated glow, while stimulating your own cell turnover. Its magic ingredient is slow-release hyaluronic acid, which helps the skin to produce new collagen and elastin. So it basically rejuvenates itself from the inside out. Profhilo can be used alone, or alongside anti-ageing injections and fillers. It’s the ideal ‘starter treatment’ if you’ve never had injectables, or are worried about looking too ‘done’.
If only somebody would invent makeup that doesn’t slip, smudge or melt in the heat. Good news: semi-permanent makeup does exactly that. It stays put no matter how high the mercury, or how often you take a dip in the pool.
Eyes (brows and liner) and lips are the most popular treatment area. The process involves inserting small amounts of pigment into the upper layer of the skin. Expect to need two to four applications, depending on the area treated. However, I’m told results can last for up to five years.
Dare to bare
Summer means swimsuits. And shorts. Strappy tops. And floaty frocks. It also means depilation, which can be a true bore and chore. Don’t be a slave to shaving, or waste your precious time waxing. If you want to be silky-smooth and stubble-free all summer long, Laser Hair Removal is the best option. Look out for the market-leading Soprano laser, which is fast and virtually pain-free. However, most areas need around six treatments, with some time in between. So, I suggest, the sooner you start, the better.
Freeze your fat away
Most of us don’t associate being cold with the summer months. But what if I told you it could help you lose weight? Fat Freezing (also known as CoolSculpting or Cryolipolysis) is a great way to shift those wobbles. No food deprivation or excessive exercise required!
To be more precise, Fat Freezing is a non-surgical treatment solution for pockets of stubborn fat. Special equipment lowers the chosen area’s temperature to around -7°. The cooled fat cells are killed off, break down and in time leave the body via the lymphatic system. Fat Freezing is a fast, painless procedure that’s effective on all the usual problem areas, such as thighs, hips and tummy. You should see the results of your treatment within a couple of weeks, although most clinics recommend a course of two or three at least.
Take control of your curves
If you’re fully body confident, brilliant. But if you’re self-conscious about cellulite or saggy skin, there are plenty of body contouring treatments to try.
Did you know that Endermologie is scientifically proven to reduce the appearance of that unsightly ‘orange peel’ skin? It can improve skin tone, boost circulation and improve the appearance of cellulite. The average treatment time is less than an hour – book a course for the best results.
Skimpy summer clothes make it harder to conceal loose, sagging skin – a common side-effect of significant weight loss. But there is a fix for it. Skin tightening treatments such as Radiofrequency are a great option for firming and contouring. (Apparently Jennifer Aniston is a fan of radiofrequency facials and I think she looks amazing.) Radiofrequency works by painlessly heating the target area, and promoting collagen production. It achieves excellent toning and tightening effects – so there’s no excuse not to boss it on the beach this summer!
